                Extensive security features.   | |
    SYMMETRIC MULTIPROCESSINGFeature: Multiprocessor support.

Function: System supports two-to-eight UltraSPARC® III processors running at
    1.2 GHz.

Benefit: UltraSPARC III technology offers performance and scalability, and
provides support for compute-intensive and I/O-intensive applications while
maintaining full compatibility with previous systems and software.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 CONNECTIVITY
 Feature: Multiple ports and interfaces.

Function: Integrated controllers for Gigabit Ethernet, separate 10/100
Ethernet, FC-AL disks, 2 USB ports for keyboard and mouse, serial port and
internal SCSI for DVD and removable media devices.

Benefit: Cost-effective means to provide network and storage connectivity.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 STORAGE CAPACITY
 Feature: Integrated storage subsystem.

Function: Each base configuration has six 73 GB drives. Also, there is an
optional expansion disk backplane with six disks; 6x36 GB, 6x73 GB or 6x146
GB. Maximum total disk storage is 1.3 TB.

Benefit: Easy, cost-effective means to add external storage.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 ENHANCED AVAILABILITY
 Feature: Hot-swap capability.

Function: Disks, PCI slots, power supplies, and cooling fan trays can be
replaced on the fly in the event of a failure.

Benefit: Reduce downtime. Increased levels of availability complement data
center operations within a branch or remote office, as well as within medium
    to large departmental environments.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 REMOTE MANAGEMENT
Feature: Remote System Control (RSC) module is Sun's implementation of a
System Service Processor (SSP). This module is a standard, pre-integrated
feature for the Sun Fire 280R, V480 and V880 servers.

Function: A completely independent processor module, the RSC allows
administrators to remotely query the status of the system, diagnose faults,
and initiate a system power on/off or reboot. RSC provides remote console
access and sends system alerts to administrators via email or pager and
allows management functions to occur remotely, facilitating easier issue
    resolution.

Benefit: Reduce system management costs and facilitate response to system
    events.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 SYSTEM RECOVERY
 Feature: Automatic System Recovery software.

Function: Automatic System Recovery identifies and removes failed components
and then automatically attempts to return the system to operations, thereby
increasing access to applications and data.

Benefit: Maximizing system availability for critical applications.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 MULTIPATHING CAPABILITY
Feature: Multiple paths to internal and most external storage arrays and
    networks.

Function: An alternate path to the internal FC-AL disk subsystem may be
implemented via a PCI to FC disk controller. This feature requires VERITAS
Volume Manager software version 3.1.1 or later (with dynamic multipathing)
for transparent recovery from failures at the application level.
Additionally, Solstice DiskSuite or VERITAS Volume Manager software may be
utilized to implement either volume shadowing or RAID capabilities in order
to mask the failure of a single disk.

Benefit: Provides a higher level of availability to data.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 SERVICEABILITY
Feature: Flexible front or side panel access.

Function: Hot swap disks are easily accessible from the front access door.
PCI slots are hot-swappable and accessible from the left side door. LED
indicators help insure that the proper PCI card is accessed. The front panel
    provides overall system status.

Benefit: Ease of maintenance and upgrades by end users.
